Council Office, Councillors and Staff

The Town Council Office is to the rear of the Memorial Hall on the High Street opposite the petrol station. The opening hours are 10 am - 1 pm Monday to Thursday. Access is through the black gate down the side passage to the left of the green double doors to the hall. The post box is on the double doors to the Hall.

Council elections are held every four years and below are listed the current Councillors and Council staff:

Councillors

Cllr Gwyn Jones

I have spent most of my career in Local Government and have experience of both rural and urban administrations. As a member of Woburn Sands Town Council I feel that I can make a positive contribution to the life of the town by contributing to our community and improving our environs.

Cllr Keith Temple

I have lived in Woburn Sands for 28 years. For 10 years I was a Town Councillor, and Mayor during 2018/19. Due to my mother suffering dementia, I became a carer and resigned in 2019. I'm now free to rejoin the Town Council.

My main interests are environment, policing and communications. Passionate about Woburn Sands, I am also a volunteer for many local organisations.

Cllr Trudie Sutton

Trudie became a Town Councillor in January 2022. Her career has always been in finance and now with more time on her hands, she wants to give something back to the community. She has served on our Halls and Finance committee over the past year. She has worked closely with the Christmas Fayre Committee and more recently the Music Festival to help raise money for local charities.

Cllr Alex Poppleton

Alex has lived in Woburn Sands for 22 years and has a background in change management and community engagement.

In the past Alex has been involved in the Community of Woburn Sands group, and in 2020 ran a successful campaign to stop the Ox-Cam expressway from bulldozing through our community!

Alex is passionate about protecting our ecosystems and our living environment and wants to ensure future planning developments are aligned with what local people actually want. She feels that it is important that the voice of the community is engaged and listened to!

Cllr David Hopkins

Cllr David Hopkins

Ward and Town Councillor

david.hopkins@milton-keynes.gov.uk

David Hopkins is a lifelong resident of Woburn Sands and Wavendon and is also one of the ward councillors representing Woburn Sands at Milton Keynes City Council.

David is also a trustee of the local Poor’s Coal Charity (offering winter fuel grants to qualifying residents) and the George Wells Education Charity. He is also Chairman of Wavendon Parish Council and the Chair of Governors at a local primary school.

When relaxing David is a keen Bedford Blues Rugby supporter and still turns out occasionally for local cricket clubs and enjoys the varied and always excellent programme of events at the local Stables Theatre.

Cllr Gwynn Smitham

I have spent the majority of my working life in a corporate environment managing various businesses. I have lived in Monkston and Woburn Sands for 21 years. As a member of Woburn Sands Town CounciI, I feel that I can bring a significant amount of corporate experience to the role.

Cllr Kim Fisher

Moving here 28 years ago I have enjoyed working in the local bakers and later in the Co-Op. Through these jobs I have met lots of people and made wonderful friends in Woburn Sands.

One of my greatest pleasures is enjoying our wonderful historic countryside.

Keeping our beautiful landscape and high street thriving is so important to me.

Cllr Wendy Green

I have lived in Milton Keynes for 43 years and for the last 2 years in Woburn Sands. I worked in a variety of management positions for an MK based company for 25 years prior to my leaving employment 11 years ago. Since moving to Woburn Sands I have been struck by the strong sense of community spirit within the town and have become passionate about the local environment. I believe my working and life experiences put me in a good position to contribute in a positive way to the town and its residents.

I have lived in Woburn Sands for 7 years and have a background in the law. I have been a school governor for many years and became a Town Councillor in September 2024 because I wanted to be able to make a positive contribution to the town and give something back to the community.
