The George Wells Charity was set up with money bequeathed by George Wells of Wavendon. He died in 1713 leaving a sum of money to provide assistance to scholars. The charity now offers students up to the age of 25, who are full time College or University students or taking apprenticeships or NVQs an opportunity to make one claim per year from the charity. Any claim a student makes must relate exclusively to the costs incurred in relation to books, uniforms and equipment required as part of their course of study.

In order to apply, it has long been the case that the student must live in the Ancient Parish of Wavendon, which includes the original part of Wavendon, Woburn Sands and Aspley Heath. It is acknowledged by the trustees of the charity that there has been significant residential growth within these parishes and therefore the trustees have decided to accept applications from all areas within the parish boundaries of Wavendon, Woburn Sands and Aspley Heath. The charity’s funds are limited, however, therefore priority will be given to those who live in the area designated as the “Ancient Parish of Wavendon”.

Applying for a grant is straightforward and requires filling in an easy application form that needs to be completed and returned with receipts for costs incurred by the student. The grant cannot be used to cover the costs of postage, printer cartridges, computers or travel expenditure.
